EXODUS

THERE ARE 250 REFERENCES FROM EXODUS IN 19 BOOKS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT.

God allowed Israel to wait in bondage in Egypt for 40 years while He prepared Moses in the wilderness.

“Moses was trained in Egypt with the best education of the day but he was nont prepared to lead God’s way.”

3:4 =  “Here am I”      then v 11 “who am I”

3: 6 = God of Abraham – Isaac – Jacob

Abraham speaks of revelation

Isaac speaks of redemption

Jacob speaks of regeneration

3:11 = Moses said “who am I”.

         v 12 God said “doesn’t matter, it’s who I am that counts. 

        v 13 Then Moses asks “Who are you?” 

3:15 = God was concerned with all generations! The world is on God’s heart!

4:20 = Rod of God see 9:23,10:13, 14:16, 17:6

4:27 = When God spoke to Moses, he talked back. When God spoke to Aaron he just obeyed.

12:1-12 = “LAMB” and “IT” (refering to the Lamb) is always singular, never plural. Refers to Christ. See Heb. 9:11-12

FEAST OF UNLEAVEN BREAD:

“feast” = type of burial of Jesus see Lev 23:6-8 = Jesus burried our sin on the cross and in His grave

“leaven” = type of sin = we must separate from sin – Matt 16:6, I Cor 5:8

14:13 = first “stand still and see” then 14:15 = “go forward”

17:5 & 9 = God called it “Moses rod” and Moses called it “God’s rod” . Are my posessions mine or am I just a steward of God’s?”

17:8 = THEN – God did not allow any enemy to get to Israel until after He had delivered them from Egypt, Pharaoh, water (Red Sea =too much water and at Marah =bad water and at Rephidim =no water) hunger.

IN TYPE Delivered from Pharaoh = God’s part = Salvation

Delivered from Amalek = Man’s part = Sanctification

Amalek = a type of the flesh Gal 5:19–24

CHAPTER 16 Atonement

WHY = Sin – 16:9, Rom 5:21

WHAT = Blood – 16:15, 17:1-14, Heb 9:22

WHEN = Once a year -16:30, 34, Once for all – Heb 9:12

WHERE = One place -16:15, 17:9, Heb 9:24

WHO = High priest – 16:2, 16:9 JESUS – Rom 5:11, 2 Cor 5:21

NUMBERS

THERE ARE 73 QUOTATIONS FROM NUMBERS IN 4 BOOKS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT

“God must have been a Baptist. He counted His people. He even named one of the books of the Bible “Numbers”!

CHAPTER 1 14 times war, fighting and battle are mentioned. Are we supposed to be soldiers in the Lord’s army? 2 Tim 2:3

10:2-6 TRUMPETS

one for assembly – the Rapture I Thes 4:13-15

one for warfare the Tribulation Rev 8-11

13:30 = the odds against Joshua and Caleb were 5 to 1

14:6 = the odds were now over 1,000,000 to 1

14:2 = this prayer was answered in verse 28-29

14:3 =Israel used their children as an excuse not to obey God but it was their children who inherited and possessed the promised land.

14:20 =an illustration of God’s answer to prevailing prayer

14:21 GOD’S HEART IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN ALL THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD!

16:49 =14,953 people died because of the murmuring against God’s leaders

20:11 = God still blessed His people in spite of Moses’ sin

21:8 = the only Reptile in the Bible that is used as a type of Christ. Jn 3:14, 12:32

22:3 = Moab was afraid for two reasons

>1- MANY = 603,550 men fit for military duty

22,000 men fit for priestly duty

625,000 men plus all the women and children

estimated there were 2,500,000 to 3 million in all.

to feed that many people would take 1,500 tons of food a day equal to 30 railroad boxcars!

> 2- CHILDREN OF ISRAEL = They were God’s people! and Moab knew it.

we Christians are not the ones causing fear in the midst of the godless pagan practices of today – probably because of the watered down, wishy-washy brand of “churchianity” we practice.

V 6 “COME NOW” still the invitation from heathen lands to God’s servant today.

v 16 “LET NOTHING HINDER THEE!”

Satan still uses the same tactics to hinder God’s people today:

22:6, 15 = flattery (see note at

22:7 = money Nehemiah 4:8)

22:17 = honor and\or fame

22:17 = power

22:20-21 = God told Balaam to go only IF they asked him again. It looks to me like he just went on his own without waiting for them to ask –therefore the angel came to kill him.

Chapter 29

Laws concerning the offerings

SWEET Savor -(35 times in Lev-Nu)

Jesus – Eph 5:2, Christians – 2 Cor 2:15, Prayer – Rev 5:8

SACRIFICE – I Peter 1:7

NO WORK Rest, Heb 4

32:6 = Reuben and Gad would not go to war BUT they were the first to go into captivity.

DEUTERONOMY

THERE ARE 208 REFERENCES FROM DEUTERONOMY IN 21 BOOKS IN THE NEW TESTAMENT. IT IS THE BOOK MOST QUOTED BY JESUS!

THE FIRST TIME THAT THE LOVE OF GOD IS STATED IN THE BIBLE.

THE KEY TO THE BOOK IS OBEDIENCE TO GOD.

1:12 = See Acts 6:3

1:28 = had their eyes on the problem

1:30 = had their eyes on GOD

2:1 = lots of Christians are still just going in circles

2:14 = This is one reason they were in the wilderness for 38 years. The only warfare that Israel knew about was having observed Egyptian army. God will never use worldly methods.

3:18 = KJV “all that are meet for the war” literally “sons of power”

“power” is virtue, valor, strength. They are sons of power because they have now been trained in the wilderness by God in HIS methods.

3:25 = Mose is 120 years old yet his prayer is still “let me GO” forward, not to retire!

3:28 = “charge … encourage … strengthen” see I Thes 2:11

CHAPTER 4 “The Purpose of Preaching is Practice”

The reason for teaching is to promote action.

14:20 = Dietary laws were given only to teach the Jews that they were separate, different.

14:26 = Wine was not strong drink, not intoxicating

24:1 = Jesus commentary on this law of divorce is Matthew 19:8

25:17-19 = see Exodus 17 re: Amalek

28:10 = The world was on God’s heart! The reason and purpose of Israel was to testify to THE WORLD of the grace of God!

31:17 = Blame God for the consequences of their OWN SIN.

32:22 = see Psalm 9:17, Prov. 15:11, Isa. 5:14, Lu 16:23
